the importance of capturing the most important year of their lives
You Should Enjoy Their Senior Year as Much as They Do.
The impossible has happened. Thousands of high school seniors are missing their proms, senior trip, college visits, and high school graduation. If you and your family are anything like me, I never thought this day would happen. I never thought the most important year of so many young lives would vanish due to an international pandemic.
Yet here we are in the midst of watching it happen. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it is how important it is to capture the small moments before they disappear. Senior year of high school is not a series of the big moments. It is all the small moments that lead up to that big day of graduation. Those are the moments that matter and should be captured.
What Are the Small Moments that Matter?
Do you remember the first day of your senior year of high school? I remember the mixed emotions of joy and sadness. It was a bitter-sweet beginning to the end.
What I don’t remember is what I wore or what the weather was like that day. Thank goodness my parents thought to take a photo. That one photo marked one of the most important days of my life: the first day of the beginning of the end of an era.
Your senior will have many moments like this. Some of these moments they will remember as years go by. However, many will be slowly forgotten forever. Some of these moments may be:
- The first senior football game they attended
- The last senior football game they attended
- The first date with that special person
- The group of friends dressed up for their last high school Halloween event
- Homecoming: the game, the dance, the fun
- That high school sweetheart
- The last workout in the school gym
- The holiday exchange between friends
- The last day of school…before graduation
- The day your child receives the last high school yearbook
- The commitment to the next chapter in their life, college, trade school or something bigger
- And so much more
Why Is It Important to Capture These Moments?
Capturing these moments is an amazing gift to yourself, as parents, and your children. Along with the big moments that you want to capture and will certainly capture, capturing the smaller moments of your child’s senior year of high school will help this essential year live on forever in your hearts and minds.
Many seniors in high school in 2020 are missing so many big events in their life. However, they have small memories of senior year that can live on with them. These small memories ensure their senior year was not a complete loss.
Hopefully, we will never see this type of pandemic again in our lifetime. However, it is important to preserve memories for a lifetime. Your child will thank you and you will have these memories to cherish forever. They grow up so fast. Blink and you can miss it.
