This July marks a significant milestone—20 years since I started my photography business. Since 2004, I’ve dedicated myself to capturing memories, empowering teens, and bringing out the best in everyone who steps in front of my camera. As I celebrate this remarkable anniversary, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey, my passion for photography, and the impact I hope to have made on the lives of my clients.
A Journey from Corporate America to Creative Freedom
My path to becoming a photographer in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia area is both inspiring and unique. After spending 25 years in Corporate America, working in finance, human resources, and international relations, I felt the need for a change. My passion for photography (that started in 1978), combined with a desire to find more fulfillment in my work, led me to leave the corporate world and start my own photography business in 2004.
The decision to follow my heart wasn’t easy, but it was the right one. Over the past two decades, I’ve built a successful business that allows me to do what I love every day. I find joy in the challenges of running a small business, the continuous learning that photography requires, and, most importantly, the connections I make with my clients.
Empowering Through the Lens
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to empower teens and build self-esteem through my photography. I believe that a great portrait session is more than just taking pictures—it’s about bringing out the personality and confidence of each individual. By engaging with my clients during pre-session consultations, I get to know them, learn about their interests, and tailor each session to reflect who they are.
My clients often leave their sessions feeling uplifted and excited, not just about the final images, but about the experience itself. Watching these young people grow up, and in many cases, return as adult clients, has been one of the greatest joys of my career.
Balancing Tradition and Innovation
In an ever-evolving industry, I’ve managed to maintain my unique style while also embracing new trends and technologies. I’m committed to continuing education, learning from industry leaders, and staying updated on the latest trends in photography. This dedication to growth ensures that my work remains fresh and relevant, while still reflecting the personal touch and consistency that my clients have come to love.
Support from My Husband, Family, and Friends
As I look back on the past 20 years, I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from my husband, family, and friends. Their encouragement and belief in my dreams have been instrumental in my journey. My husband has been my rock, providing the stability and love that have allowed me to pursue my passion with confidence. My family and friends have been there every step of the way, offering guidance, inspiration, and a helping hand whenever needed. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without their support, and I’m thankful every day for the role they’ve played in helping me build the business I have today.
A Story of Inspiration and Passion
My story is one of inspiration, resilience, and passion. From my early days as a secretary in Philadelphia to becoming a mascot for the Philadelphia Stars, and eventually a corporate leader, I’ve always followed my heart and had a passion to engage with others. My decision to pursue photography full-time transformed my life and brought me immense joy.
As a photographer, I’ve worked with a diverse range of clients, from families and seniors to corporate professionals and non-profits. My favorite sessions, however, remain those that allow me to connect one-on-one with teens and children, helping to boost their self-esteem and capture memories that will last a lifetime.
Looking Ahead
As I celebrate 20 years of Lisa Mongulla Photography, I’m excited about what the future holds. With a deep commitment to my craft, my clients, and my community, I look forward to continuing to capture memories, tell stories, and empower my clients for many more years to come. Here’s to the next 20 years of passion, creativity, and making a difference—both behind the camera and beyond.
