Self Care Tips - What You Should Do Before Your Senior Portrait Sessions
A senior portrait experience is an investment, and it's one where you should take time and plan for the session. Your senior portrait sessions should be an expression of who you are now and how you spent the last four years of your life.
However, if you want to get the most amazing portraits out of your senior portrait sessions, there are some self-care tips you should follow, and I've included a few below:
1. Skip the Tan
Tanning can help you feel amazing and glow. However, when you tan right before your portrait session, you may find your skin is blotchy, red, or looks too unnatural. You may show strap marks too. Furthermore, if you use a spray tan, the tan can get on your clothes and ruin your look.
If you want to look tan for your portraits, consider going tanning a week or so in advance. If you go tanning well before your portrait session, your skin can have the opportunity to heal from the sun or tanning both rays. Additionally, the tan will begin to look more natural as time goes on.
2. Get Your Haircut in Advance
A new haircut can be a great look for your senior portraits. However, you should not get your haircut the day or even a few days before your senior portrait experience. Instead, you should get your haircut about a week to two weeks before your portraits. If you hate the cut, two weeks provides enough time for your hair to grow a bit and change the look, It also gives you enough time to practice styling your hair with your new cut before it is time to sit for your senior portraits.
3. Plan Your Outfit in Advance
Raise your hand if you changed your outfit several times before you went out with your friends to an event or special night. I am sure everyone has done this at least once. Maybe you change your shirt. Maybe you changed your accessories. Maybe you changed everything you had on and went with a totally different look.
Since we are always changing our look for going out, we will likely change our look a dozen times to find the perfect look for senior portraits. Therefore, take the time about a week before your portraits to plan your look. Try on everything in your closet and jewelry drawers to find the look that is best for you. If you don’t have something that feels perfect, a week gives you time to go to the store or online and find the clothes or accessories you think will make the look pop.
Also, consider the location, it may require a specific look too.
4. Be Natural
Make up can be a great enhancer for your senior portraits. However, do not go overboard. A lot of makeup in a portrait can look fake and overwhelming. Instead, opt for a natural look. Wear enough makeup to enhance your features without overshadowing them.
Try your makeup look at least a week in advance as well. A week gives you enough time to continue practicing the look and tweak it as you deem beneficial for your senior portraits.
