5 Ideas for Your Senior’s Portraits
Help Your Child Stand Out from the Pack with Unique Senior Portraits
Your child's senior year is an exciting right of passage. They are leaving high school in 9 brief months and heading off to the next chapter in life. They are getting their driver's licenses experiencing newfound freedom and on the verge of becoming an adult.
As parents, you want to remember this year for what it really is…the last year your baby is still home and experiencing the freedom of childhood. After graduation, they may move on to college, take a year off to see the world, or begin working right away. Wherever their journey takes them, they will always be your baby with that special place in your heart and home.
Senior portraits are a great way to capture the special moments you and your senior have ahead while capturing their spirit as a teenager in high school. Read on to get some inspiration for your child's senior portraits.
- Sit Down and Lean into It
Usually, your senior portrait is a headshot. You may be sitting or standing. However, the photo is only going to capture your body from the shoulders up. Instead of capturing your upper body, a senior portrait can be much more relaxed.
Capture your senior in a relaxed pose. Sitting down and relaxing can allow your senior to breathe a sigh of relief while capturing their true personality. Whether they want to sit on the park bench, the curb, or their favorite park bench, a senior portrait of them sitting, relaxing, and leaving forward can help capture their carefree childhood the way it was meant to be showcased.
- Showcase Hobbies in Action Shots
All kids have a hobby (even if it is playing video games). An action shot capturing them in their element can be a great way to capture the true essence of your senior. Have your senior take those actions shots while enjoying their hobbies.
Are they in theater? Do they play an instrument? Are they an athlete? Do they love animals, collecting items, or doing other activities unrelated to their daily school assignments? Whatever their hobbies, actions shots showcasing them in their element can make amazing senior portraits that you can look at fondly and remember these carefree days.
- Get the Family Involved
Senior portraits never include the family. However, some siblings are very close to one another. Some teenagers want to share moments with their parents or grandparents. Getting the family in some senior shots can be a great way to capture a memory that will last a lifetime.
While it is your senior's last year in high school, it is also a significant year for you and those within your family. You went through 4 years of school events, late-night study sessions, college prep, and more. Your whole family went on the journey together. Therefore, you should capture these last moments for the entire family.
- Bring on the “Aww Factor”
Many seniors grow up with pets. For most of them, pets are their best friends (even when they have tons of human friends). Those pets are a big part of their life and their success.
Your child’s senior portraits can showcase this special bond between your senior and their furry (or not-so-furry) best friend. Pets can be in the relaxed shots as well as the actions shots. They can even be in shots with siblings and the whole family.
- Show Some College Spirit
Your child’s senior portraits can showcase them moving onto the next phase of their lives. Maybe you want them to include some merch from the college they will be attending the following year.
Perhaps they will be traveling for a year. You can include pictures, postcards, and souvenirs from the places they will travel to.
Perhaps your senior is going into the military. Showcasing your senior's pride will truly make their senior portraits stand out and create wonderful memories for you and your senior to cherish for years to come.
