Recently, I had the privilege of traveling to Scotland, not as a golfer, but as a supporter, photographer, and proud wife. The trip was centered around my husband, Bob Doria, PGA, General Manager and Director of Golf at Medford Village Country Club. Scotland, the birthplace of golf, provided the perfect backdrop for an event that combined passion, tradition, and the thrill of the sport. It was an unforgettable experience, a bucket list trip for many, filled with stunning courses, rich culture, and the opportunity to document the event as a photojournalist.
Bob’s career in golf is a source of pride for me, and this trip to Scotland was another way to support him as he connected with fellow golf enthusiasts and explored some of the most prestigious courses in the world. The trip wasn’t just about the game; it was about immersing ourselves in the history of golf while also creating memories that would last a lifetime. My role on this trip was to document the moments—capturing the play, documenting the excitement along with the beauty of Scotland through my lens.
Our trip to Scotland took us to some of the most iconic golf courses in the world:
Each course had its own unique beauty, challenges, and stories, and watching Bob play on these iconic greens was a true highlight.
Our home base for the trip was the charming Greyfriars Hotel, located right in the heart of St. Andrews. The hotel’s cozy atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax after long days on the golf course, and its proximity to everything allowed us to explore the town with ease.
Of course, it wasn’t all about golf! When we weren't out on the course, we had the chance to explore some of the local gems St. Andrews has to offer. From delicious meals to authentic experiences, here are a few highlights:
While Bob was busy conquering the courses, I took on a different role—documenting the entire trip through photography. As a photographer, I was able to capture the quiet moments of reflection, the camaraderie between players, and the awe-inspiring beauty of Scotland’s landscapes. There’s something incredibly rewarding about photographing these moments, knowing that I’m helping to preserve memories of this special journey.
This trip reminded me of how much I love combining my two passions: supporting Bob in his golf career and creating meaningful work through photography. Just as I do every year with my charitable work for the Food Bank of South Jersey, this was another chance to give back in a different way—by capturing and sharing the essence of the experience.
As I reflect on our trip to Scotland, I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunity to support Bob while also immersing myself in a landscape that’s rich with history and beauty. Whether it’s through golf or photography, these moments remind us of the importance of pursuing our passions and standing by each other along the way. I look forward to future adventures, whether at home or abroad, knowing that our journey together is just getting started.
