It's Time!
It’s Time to Create Your Own Memories
When COVID Takes Away Your Senior Moments, Make Your Own
This year, COVID has taken so much from our kids. It has taken away the prom, graduation, summer break, and in-person learning. It has ended athletics early. It has taken away homecoming, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and so much more.
For the Senior Class of 2021, COVID has redefined senior year in a way no one could imagine. And as the first part of the school year quickly draws near, we are left with very few fond memories to capture.
How Can You Create Your Own Memories?
We may live in a very different world right now. However, we still are living, and the world is still open in some ways. Hiking, outdoor activities, and small gatherings are currently allowed without hue concerns. Wearing a mask does not mean we cannot enjoy ourselves. IT simply means we must do things a bit differently.
Since the world is still operating, seniors can create memories outside of school. This year, instead of taking photos at homecoming or the playoff football games, you can find other opportunities to capture the moment that will define your senior’s year.
The best way to create your memories is to find your moments. While your child may miss out on things because school is closed, they have created new events to help them enjoy this year. These will become the memories you capture.
Maybe it is a bonfire with a few close friends. Maybe it’s the hike you and your child take on a Friday afternoon. It could simply be a zoom call with all of your child's closest friends. These memories are worth capturing because they helped define your child’s senior year.
How Do You Want to Remember Your Child’s Senior Year?
You have a choice. You can remember your child’s senior year as the year they missed out. Or you can remember it as the year that they made their own fun!
The year they made their own fun means it was the year of their adventure. It was not an adventure laid out for them. It was not the social norms that dictate most senior years. Instead, it was their year and the year that defined them.
When you look back at these memories with your child, and eventually their children, this year will be like no other. The good times and not-so-good times can tell a story of the year that defied the odds.
Do not let a little pandemic destroy your child's senior year memories. Instead, find all the amazing ways to make it their own year and capture that. Capture the creativity that lives inside your child. Capture the moments of joy, optimism, and pure childhood that so easily gets lost throughout the normal school year.
